Message from the President (7/31/24)
To our friends and neighbors:
Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom has once again experienced significant flooding and the stress, destruction and heartbreak that comes with it. St. Johnsbury, Lyndon and other towns were already reeling from the severe flooding three weeks ago, and here we are again. Lightning really can strike twice.
The impact on the communities we serve is significant, and while the devastation is still raw, we know if any community can overcome this event, it is ours. We want anyone affected by the flooding to know we are here for you. Team Passumpsic is available and ready to assist local, state and federal organizations as we all begin rebuilding, restoring and revitalizing our communities and the local economy.
It’s unthinkable that the hits keep coming, but now, more than ever, Together We Shine.

Reporting damage is essential, no matter how big or small. Reporting is a key piece of the state's tracking of flood impact. It helps with FEMA registration and federal funding. It also allows us to connect those in need with volunteers and organizations working to help clean up and rebuild. Reporting online is best - https://vermont211.org, Or dial 211 (or) 802/ 652-4636
Flood Cleanup Supplies & Resources:
- For businesses: American Red Cross disaster kits and water are available for pick up at the St. Johnsbury Fire Department, 1187 Main Street.
- For residents: The American Red Cross had opened a temporary Emergency Shelter as of 4pm today (Wednesday) at 121 Maple Street, the Good Shepherd School. Residents can pick up clean up kits, bottled water and comfort kits there. If people are in need of an overnight shelter cots, will be available.
- A State Flood Disaster Recovery Center has been established in Lyndonville. Hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 9:30am - 6pm. Stop by to get snacks & water, cleaning kits, assistance with recovery resources, basic medical services. VSU Grey House, 180 Vail Drive, Lyndonville, VT 05851
- Starting tomorrow morning (Thursday), the Town of St. Johnsbury is providing three free dumpster locations for flood debris. 2 will be located at Cliff Street, and one will be located at 852 Portland Street.
- If you need more volunteers or specialized cleanup supplies, please let me know. Many of the formal volunteer networks are concentrating their efforts on residential cleanup, and I know this is leaving a gap in support for businesses. Please let me know how I can help get you connected with what you need!
